The Battle For Northants Fight Card

Fresh from their successful ‘Night of Champions’ show in Leicester back in February, Battle Arena bring Europe’s largest amateur Mixed Martial Arts promotion back to Northampton with many of the county’s top fighters stepping inside the cage.

Another exciting night, featuring over 20 contests, is on the cards when ‘The Battle for Northants’ takes place at the County Ground – a venue usually home to the more sedate sport of cricket – on Saturday June 22.

The night sees Northamptonshire’s finest MMA practitioners take on both domestic and international opponents, with Kettering Shoot Fighters spearheading the county challenge by sending five fighters to compete.

Battle Arena veterans Andy Draper and Rob Vials both return to action for the club. Draper is up against Frenchman Jean-Noel Chauffaule (Le Battle Combat Club), while Vials takes on Luke Carter (Next Level MMA) who recorded a first-round stoppage in Leicester.

The Kettering club’s line-up is completed by Julian TippingDean Benemore and James Styles. The two clubs from nearby Wellingborough, The MMA Gym and Shudan MMA, are also sending three men each to do battle.

Brett Francis is aiming to build on an impressive debut victory back in February when he faces 5 Elements MMA’s Wes ScottShane Hale returns as well, looking to banish his debut loss on Battle Arena’s outdoor show at Nene Park last August.

There is also first fight for Robin Ewan, against Leszek Krakowski (5 Elements MMA). Meanwhile, the experienced Tom Kenny heads the Shudan challenge when he tackles Josh McManus (1st Legion MMA). Balal Miahfaces a yet-to-be named opponent, while Luke Shanks is up against Ajay Hulme (Kings Gym).

Corby team Siam MMA, led by battle-hardened campaigner Den Palmer, will also be represented by four combatants, and Palmer himself faces off against international opposition in the form of Le Battle Combat Club’s Ctril Bonino.

Ryan Barby is in action against another Le Battle man, Josh Demoux. Elsewhere on the card, club mate Pete Batson squares off with Junior Bueno (1st Legion). The rest of the card sees some of the UK's top amateur talent going head-to-head in the battle for supremacy.

The show also features Battle Arena’s now-famous ‘Battle Babes’ ring card girls, while there will be an after show party at the Ice Lounge on Northampton’s Bridge Street.

Full Contact Contender 6: Menga vs Sitenkov

The North West’s hottest amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, Full Contact Contender (FCC), is proud to confirm FCC 6: Menga vs Sitenkov, taking place in the Premier Suite at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on June 22nd, 2013. The card will be headlined by FCC’s biggest main event to date, as experienced European flyweight Artemij Sitenkov challenges FCC Flyweight Champion Pietro Menga.

Menga became the first ever professional FCC champion at FCC 5 in March, submitting Mark Platts in the first round to move his unblemished professional ledger to 9-0. Menga, who recently secured his first boxing win, has finished seven of his nine opponents in the first round, with seven submissions and two (T)KO’s to his name. Keen to defend his title, Menga asked to return to FCC to face his toughest test to date; Artemij Sitenkov.

Lithuanian grappling prodigy Sitenkov (14-9) has faced Europe’s finest lighter-weight fighters. All fourteen of his victories come by way of submission, with a mystifying arsenal of arm and kneebars in his toolkit. Sitenkov has submitted Cage Warriors #1 flyweight contender Neil Seery in 55 seconds, and UFC superstar Conor McGregor in just 30. He also holds wins over Steve McCombe and James Doolan.

Promoter Adam Teh said:

“I’m really happy to have Pietro Menga back on FCC. With a talent like that, you know that the big shows are going to come calling sooner or later, so it’s great that Pietro wanted to return to defend his title like a true champion should. Artemij Sitenkov has collected more arms and legs than I’ve collected football stickers over the years. This is a huge test for Menga, and for Sitenkov, it’s a chance to re-establish himself as one of Europe’s top Flyweights.”

FCC 5 will feature a second pro fight as its co-main event, as SBG’s Jordan Desborough (5-2) takes on Stoke Fight Factory’s Conrad Haines (6-2) in a bantamweight contest. Also on the card, James Walker (3-2) faces the returning Shaun Hampton for Brett McDermott’s recently vacated Amateur Light Heavyweight title, Callum Brady (6-1) defends his Amateur Welterweight title against Dez Parker (10-1), Coner Hignett (9-2) defends his Amateur Flyweight title against Mike Berry (4-2) and the hard-hitting Joe Nazokatov challenges submission specialist Josh Jarvis for the Amateur Featherweight title. Rounding out the amateur title fights is a unification bout as Amateur Lightweight champion Martin Chester returns to face interim champ Lee Richardson.

Adam Teh said… “On June 22nd, we’ll have more titles than the House of Lords! Brett McDermott had a great run as our ammy light heavyweight champ, and I’m confident that either Hampton or Walker can fill those shoes. It’ll be great to clear up the lightweight title picture too, with two solid submission stylists tangling for the title of undisputed champion. Joe Naz and Josh Jarvis is a great styles clash, while Brady vs Parker and Hignett vs Berry both promise fireworks. With 16 other Unified Amateur rules bouts confirmed, FCC continues to offer the best value ticket in town. FCC 6 is not to be missed!”

WSOF Adds Two New Prelim Bouts

Surging KO artist Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher (11-1) of Glendale, Ariz. will square off with fellow fast-rising star Jerrod Sanders (11-1) of Oklahoma City, Okla. in a World Series of Fighting featherweight (145 pounds) preliminary card bout at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, June 14.

A bantamweight (135 pounds) contest between emerging force Carson “Little Juggernaut” Beebe (13-2) of Schaumburg, Ill. and undefeated submission ace Joe Murphy (6-0) of Huntington Beach, Calif. has been added to the preliminary card as well, World Series of Fighting announced today.

“We are excited to add another pair of matchups to our preliminary card that will showcase a collection of the sport’s brightest up and coming athletes and future champions,” said World Series of Fighting President and six-time world kickboxing champion Ray Sefo.  “Since we launched our promotion last year, World Series of Fighting has made a commitment to building a roster of its own stars, so fighting as many potential future stars at our live events is critical in order to ensure that these athletes gain the necessary competitive experience to take their careers to the next level.”

The 26-year-old Gruetzemacher has been on fire since 2009, winning his last 10 fights.  He has defeated each of his last seven opponents by way of (T)KO or submission, including four consecutive (T)KO victories.

Likewise, Sanders has notched nine straight wins.  The 33-year-old has finished his last three opponents – two by way of submission and the third via TKO.

Beebe, the 24-year-old younger brother of bantamweight submission specialist Chase Beebe, is looking to return to the win column after he dropped a unanimous decision to Rolando Velasco in his last effort on Nov. 15, 2012.  Prior to that, Beebe had reeled off seven consecutive victories.

The 25-year-old Murphy has been unstoppable since he made his professional debut with a first round (2:01) submission (armbar) victory over Orlando Aspericueta on May 1, 2009.  Five of Murphy’s six wins to date have come by way of submission, including his last bout, an April 14, 2012 matchup with Tyler Weathers that Murphy won by way of armbar in the second round (2:56).

Tickets for the World Series of Fighting event, priced from $29 (plus applicable service fees), are on sale at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone at 800.745.3000.

The four-bout main card will air live on NBC Sports Network, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.

In the welterweight (170 pounds) main event and a long-awaited rematch, Jon Fitch (24-5) of Fort Wayne, Ind., will square off with fellow superstar Josh “The People’s Warrior” Burkman (25-9) of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The second meeting between the 35-year-old Fitch, a member of San Jose, Calif.-based Team AKA, and the 32-year-old Burkman, a winner of four consecutive fights, comes slightly more than seven years after Fitch submitted Burkman with a rear-naked choke in the second round (4:57) of their initial encounter that, coincidentally, also took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

In the co-main event, streaking stars and fearsome submission aces Tyson “Man of” Steele (10-1) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada and Steve Carl (19-3) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa will face off at welterweight (170 pounds).

Also slated for battle on the main card is heavyweight rising star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rolles Gracie (8-1) of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, who will face off with Dave Huckaba (21-4) of Sacramento, Calif.

Undefeated prospect Justin Gaethje (8-0) of Denver, Colo. will collide with Brian Cobb (20-7) of Bakersfield, Calif., in a lightweight (155 pounds) contest and the first televised main card bout of the night.

In preliminary card action, battle-tested submission specialist John Gunderson (34-14) of Houston, Tex. will be pitted against Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (16-4) of Bridgewater, Mass. in another lightweight tilt.  All 16 of Lauzon’s professional career victories have come by way of (T)KO or submission.

Grappling wizards Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm (21-2) of Spokane, Wash. and Jacob Volkmann (15-4) of White Bear Lake, Minn. will meet at lightweight.

Fellow undefeated prospects Krasimir Mladenov (9-0) of Borica, Bulgaria and Kendrick Miree (5-0) of Atlanta, Ga., will square off at middleweight (185 pounds).
